On August 7th of this month, we celebrate Aged Care Employee Day!
It’s that time of the year when we can come together to show our love and appreciation for those who take the patience, positivity, and determination to care for somebody who needs their help. On Aged Care Employee Day, it’s worth considering the importance of Carers and the excellent job that they do.
Recent studies show that 3 in 4 Carers don’t feel their caring role is understood or valued by their community, which needs to be changed!
Sometimes, people who start Support Worker employment find they cannot continue in the industry due to the unrealised hard work and unique personality it takes to handle such an important role.
What makes a Carer so important?
1. The number of older people in Australia is rising, meaning support work is growing and ever-demanding now and in the future.
2. Carers are skilled at navigating the most challenging of circumstances.
3. A lot of time is taken to be a dedicated Carer, often sacrificing personal time if caring for a loved one.
4. They are compassionate people who want to make a difference in people’s lives.
5. Their experience and professionalism require a great deal of empathy.
6. The complexities of their work make them and the workspace they work in incredibly resilient.
7. They have a grounded and better perspective of life and situations.
8. Their presence alone can provide someone with the essential company they otherwise wouldn’t get daily or weekly.
9. They are entrusted with the most personal and vulnerable moments of an individual’s life.
10. They do their utmost to ensure a person is happy and comfortable.
