Over the past decade, KompleteCare has become a trusted leader in providing personalised, compassionate community and home care services for individuals across a range of needs.
What began as a small initiative has grown into a comprehensive service that empowers individuals to live independently and comfortably in their own environments. As we reflect on this remarkable 10-year journey, we celebrate the commitment to quality care, the challenges that were overcome, and the many lives that have been touched along the way. This article explores the evolution of KompleteCare, highlighting its milestones, its contributions to the healthcare landscape, and its ongoing mission to provide holistic care that truly makes a difference.
Humble beginnings
KompleteCare’s journey began in 2014 with little expectation of the remarkable growth it would eventually achieve. The first breakthrough came when Owner & Business Director Linda, and CEO Scott, secured a brokerage contract with Resthaven where they provided support services on demand. If a scheduled worker could not attend a shift, they were the ones to step in. This model of flexibility soon expanded as they signed similar agreements with other organisations, allowing KompleteCare to grow its network.
Their registration with Department of Human Services (formerly known as Disability SA) also marked another milestone. This assisted them with registering with the NDIS and My Aged Care, enabling them to operate independently as a home care provider.
‘That really changed the business to where we weren’t relying on brokerage,’ says Linda.
‘At any time, those companies could say, ‘we don’t want you anymore,’ and that was a bit scary for us. We needed something more solid. We needed our own clients.’
Despite the business gaining momentum, the early years were marked by long hours and a hands-on approach. With no dedicated rostering team, Linda, Scott, their daughter Laura (Chief Financial Officer), and son-in-law Sam (Head of Special Projects), were often the ones filling in for missing support workers. The family was on-call seven days a week, juggling client care with the growing demands of the business.
‘We didn’t say no,’ says Laura.
‘If a worker didn’t show up, we made sure the gap was filled—even if it meant doing it ourselves.’
There were also unexpected challenges, such as the time the internet lines were cut off, forcing the team to work out of Scott and Linda’s lounge room. But, despite these hurdles, KompleteCare continued to serve clients across South Australia, proving that a family’s dedication and resilience could overcome anything. What started as a small, family-run operation was beginning to take shape into something much larger, though no one at the time could have imagined how far it would eventually go.
Building a stronger foundation
As the company continued to grow, the operations became more complex. During this period, communication between office staff and home support workers was much more rudimentary than it is today. Without the technology to streamlines operations, everything was handled through phone calls, emails, and at times, paperwork. The exponential growth made it apparent KompleteCare would need more support to keep up with demand and the team soon realised that to sustain and manage their growing success, the business would need additional staff—and more office space.
Initially, KompleteCare expanded to the downstairs area of the pre-existing Modbury office, but even that was not enough for the growing team. This office housed everyone under one roof—Case Managers, Rostering Staff, Support Workers, and sub-contractors—working in tight quarters.
‘Space was very limited,’ recalls Chief Marketing Officer, Lisa, who was a subcontractor at the time.
‘When I first started, I did a lot of my work from home, but would borrow a desk from someone who had every Thursday off.
‘If I had to come into the office during the week though, I would sit in the lunchroom and get my work done there.’
As the team expanded, the need for more centralised locations quickly became apparent. In response, the business opened its second office in Williamstown. However, just 12-months later, a wave of exponential growth prompted the company to establish a Head Office in Kilburn. From there, additional locations began to follow in Salisbury and Morphett Vale. With every new home, KompleteCare reinforced its commitment to providing the team with the resources and space necessary to support its expanding client base, ensuring continued growth and service excellence.
Yet, growth came with its own set of challenges, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. With restrictions in place, the team had to adapt quickly. The Sales Team, for instance, had to pivot to virtual onboarding.
‘[During this time], we had the attitude that we could still provide the care for our clients, even in the most difficult circumstances,’ says Client Services Manager, Sonya.
The team worked tirelessly to ensure policies and procedures were adjusted to meet what was required, keeping everything running smoothly. The ability to adapt to challenges like these was a testament to KompleteCare’s resilience. Despite the obstacles, the primary objective of delivering exceptional care was upheld.
To infinity and beyond
As the business continued to expand, KompleteCare took another significant step forward and opened new branches in South Australia’s Riverland, Murray Bridge, Plympton Park, and across the border into Perth, Western Australia.
‘We have family members in these communities and wanted to bring another provider of choice, giving them access to the same quality services as they do here,’ says Head of Sales, Cody.
The vision expanded beyond in-home and community services too. In 2023, KompleteCare forged ahead with another initiative with the opening of the KC Skills Centre, a dedicated training facility designed to address the growing demand for skilled workers in the aged care and disability sectors. KC Skills Centre provides high quality training for support workers, home carers, and nurses; equipping them with the skills and knowledge they need to deliver exceptional care. By investing in workforce development, KompleteCare not only ensure a team of highly qualified professionals, but also makes a meaningful impact to the broader community by helping address the industry’s ongoing staff shortages.
‘I remember Linda coming into my office and saying she had this crazy idea [of opening] a training centre, and from there, something that we thought would take a while to happen actually took only a few months, which has been such a huge achievement’ says Lisa.
KC Skills Centre is just one example of KompleteCare’s innovation. Over the years, the company introduced a range of distinctive programs into their service catalogue. The Day Options program, for instance, offers clients an opportunity to participate in meaningful activities that promote independence, social engagement, and skill development. Additionally, Pet Care ensures clients’ furry companions are well cared for, providing peace of mind for pet owners who may have difficulty managing their needs.
With a focus on continuous improvement, KompleteCare will continue to explore innovative ways to meet the evolving needs of clients and community. Who knows what exciting new initiatives the company will introduce next? One thing is certain; KompleteCare remains steadfast in its commitment to adapting and evolving in response to the needs of those it serves.
As its core, KompleteCare’s success has never been just about business growth. For Scott and Linda, the vision has always focused on creating something that would leave a lasting impact–a legacy that reflects strong values and the unwavering strength of family. It is not just about care; it is about making a real difference.
From humble beginnings to a thriving interstate network, the story of KompleteCare is a testament to the power of vision, hard work, and the deep-rooted belief in the importance of family and community. As the company looks ahead with anticipation, Scott and Linda’s legacy will continue to guide the team, inspiring them to provide exceptional care while upholding the values that have made KompleteCare a highly regarded, and trusted name in the industry.
