Jan 20, 2026 | Breaking News

Being part of a community is about more than just living in a neighbourhood; it’s about connection, belonging, and having opportunities to engage with others in meaningful ways. Across South Australia, there are countless social groups, classes, and activities designed to bring people together, support wellbeing, and promote independence at every stage of life.

For older Australians and people living with disabilities, staying socially connected and involved with the community can play a vital role in physical health, mental well-being, and overall quality of life. At KompleteCare, we believe everyone deserves the opportunity to remain active and engaged within their community. That’s why we proudly offer Social Support and Transport Services, helping our clients access activities they enjoy and maintain strong community connections. Below are some popular community involvement options available across South Australia, and how KompleteCare can help you take part in them.

Community Involvement

Local community centres and councils across South Australia host a wide range of social groups. These may include activities such as coffee catchups, walking groups, board game clubs, men’s sheds, women’s circles, and multicultural meetups. These groups provide a relaxed environment to meet new people, share stories and build relationships. KompleteCare’s Social Support services can provide support workers to accompany clients to social groups, provide friendly encouragement, and assist with transport to and from activities, making participation stress-free and enjoyable. Here are some examples of Community groups below.

Some great examples include the Active Walking Group through National Seniors Australia. Held in Brighton at the Lighthouse Community Church, on the Third Tuesday of the month at 9:30 am for a 10 am start. Each month, the group hosts an interesting speaker or other entertainment. The Active Walking Group offers a leisurely walk for about half an hour, with coffee and a catch-up for an hour, then a return walk back to the starting point. The group is also involved in regular outings, including bus trips, museum visits, historical sites, and many other outings suggested by the members. There is a lunch each month after the monthly meeting, an annual Christmas lunch and an Anniversary lunch held in July/August every year. For more information, click here.

If you live further South, you could try the Seniors Activity Clubs at the Hill Recreation Centre on Candy Road in O’Halloran Hill, which includes carpet/indoor bowls, table tennis, board games, cards and bingo, BBQ’s, line dancing, a singing group, a trading table, pool and snooker and more. If you are based north of the city, why not check out KompleteCare’s Day Options Program, an inclusive program for NDIS participants and seniors, located at the Clearview Bowling Club. At KompleteCare, we understand the importance of creating a vibrant, supportive environment where individuals can thrive, which is why we are pleased to offer our exciting Day Options and Social Group Programs designed especially for NDIS, Support at Home package participants, and private clients. With a variety of arts, crafts, games, lunches, and excursions, KompleteCare’s Day Options program is an excellent opportunity for participants to learn new skills, make new friends and have a lot of fun along the way. Creative expression is a powerful way to boost confidence and wellbeing. Many community centres, libraries, and arts organisations offer classes such as painting, pottery, knitting, sewing, photography, writing groups, and music sessions.

These classes are often low-cost and designed to suit all skill levels, creating inclusive spaces where creativity can flourish.

Companies such as Adventure Art Photography offer you the opportunity to embrace an extraordinary experience and capture some of the most epic locations on earth. They offer half-day, full-day, and multi-day photography tours that capture the most stunning landscapes Australia has to offer. With a variety of different locations, such as the Laratinga Wetlands, a Dark Sky Astrophotography tour, a Monarto tour, and various landscape and bird tours, they cater to many people who don’t want to walk too far or do anything too stressful. No prior experience is needed, just attend to learn and grow as a photographer. For more information, click here.

Or you could try the ACH Art in Focus Art Classes, based at the Coromandel Community Centre, which offers participants an opportunity to meet new people, learn new skills or refresh past skills. Activities are open to everyone with no experience or prior knowledge needed to start. The entire focus is on getting creative and enjoying the benefits of engaging with a friendly, supportive group. Staying active is important for maintaining strength, balance, and independence. South Australia offers a variety of gentle exercise programs, including chair yoga, tai chi, aqua aerobics, strength-and-balance classes, and walking groups.

These programs are often tailored for older adults and people with mobility considerations, offering a safe and supportive environment.

Places like NeuroMoves Angle Park, at the Parks, Recreation and Sports Centre, offer flexible health and fitness options. NeuroMoves empowers individuals of all abilities by unlocking their full physical potential, improving mobility and function, and working with each individual’s condition or needs. Training is conducted through expert, evidence-based care and a deep understanding rooted in lived experience. The programs are created to help everyone thrive. For more information, click here.

KompleteCare can provide transport to fitness sessions and offer social support before, during, and after classes, helping clients feel comfortable, confident and supported whilst staying active.

May people find purpose and fulfilment through volunteering. Opportunities may include helping at op shops, community gardens, animal shelters, libraries, or local events. Volunteering allows people to give back while staying socially engaged.

Consider options like Volunteerability through Orana. The program recognises volunteers’ value to our society by supporting volunteers with disabilities and helping them work together successfully and inclusively. The service works with participants to find a meaningful volunteer role within an organisation that matches their interests, skills, availability, and circumstances. By sharing your goals and support requirements, the program will work alongside the participants to find solutions and provide guidance throughout your volunteering journey.
