What’s On In WA: Winter Edition!

You might remember way back in June (yes, it’s already July!), we wrote a guide on some of the best things to do during the winter months in Adelaide and the Riverland. Well, we’re back! But this time, the spotlight’s on WA!

School’s Out Winter Fest – Saturday the 1st of July – Sunday the 16th of July

If you’re after some fun with the family, this Winter festival is the one for you! Just in time for school holidays, there’s everything from rides and games to incredible snow slides. Textured Art Workshop – Sunday 16th of July

Learn how to create stunning textured artwork at the studio (and at home!). The workshop is open to all ages and includes all art materials that you’ll need, two canvases for you to take home, and a step-by-step art lesson taught by a local artist. The workshop is BYO, so you’re welcome to bring your own beverages (alcoholic or non-alcoholic) and nibbles, with glassware and cutlery provided. Tea Blending Workshop – Sunday 16th of July

Nothing says winter like a nice hot cup of tea, and at this workshop, you can blend your own! House of Hobby is hosting award-winning tea mixologist Jodie from the Tea Crowd. Come and play around with a selection of tea leaves, herbs, and spices to make your own blends. Everything you need will be provided so you can create two or three of your own tea creations. Joondalup Artisan Market – Sunday the 9th of July & Sunday the 6th of August

There’s nothing quite like the atmosphere of going to a market in winter. The Joondalup Artisan Markets are bustling with small businesses, ranging from woodworkers, homemade jewellery, pottery, artwork, and clothing. To tempt you further, there’s also a selection of gourmet foods, including gin and wine! The markets are run entirely by independent artists and creators, so what better way to support some local artists and businesses? They kick off from 9:30 am-3:00 pm, with their next date being Sunday the 9th of July, then Sunday the 6th of August.

Perth Comic Arts Festival – Saturday the 29th & Sunday the 30th of July

Grab your friends or family and head down for two fun-filled days celebrating comics. Saturday is the PCAF Academy Day at the State Library of WA and is intended for people who are more serious about comics. It is all about in-depth aspects of comics as a craft, with talks and workshops. Sunday is the PCAF Market Hall at the WA Museum Boola Bardip, packed full of comic talent based both locally and afar. Crochet 101 Workshop for Beginners – Sunday the 6th of August

Ever wanted to crochet your own winter woollies? You can learn how! Hosted by House of Hobby, at this workshop, you’ll learn a variety of techniques, tips, and tricks from their resident crochet enthusiast Brooke. You’ll learn beginner techniques needed to create “granny squares”, which provide the backbone for a range of crochet projects like scarves, beanies, blankets, and jumpers. Care & Ageing Well Expo – Saturday the 12th & Sunday the 13th of August

Are you interested in learning how to live better in your later years? The Care & Ageing Well Expo, Perth, is the perfect place to start, showcasing products, services, and information to help you make an educated choice on all things aged care. Hosted by ACCPA, The Care & Ageing Well Expo gives families and their older relatives the confidence to start meaningful conversations, as talking about the future gives you more control. And KompleteCare will be there too, so you can come and say hello! The expo is free to attend, but you do still need a ticket, which you can purchase on the Care & Ageing Well Expo website.

Disability Connection Expo – Friday the 25th & Saturday the 26th of August

Navigating the NDIS and the search for service providers can be a daunting task that seems never-ending. Don’t miss the biggest disability event Australia has seen, and find hundreds of service providers under one roof (including KompleteCare, of course!). There’s plenty of time and space to connect with a range of providers and get your questions answered. The expo is free to attend, but you will need to register as a visitor, which you can do on the Developing Australian Communities website.
