Learn the best way to claim Age Pension for your situation.

There are several factors to consider when you’re preparing to claim Age Pension.

If you get an eligible payment, we’ll write to you 13 weeks before you reach Age Pension age. We’ll invite you to transfer to Age Pension.

If you’re not getting an eligible payment, you can start your claim 13 weeks before you turn Age Pension age. You can claim in any of the following ways:

  • online
  • by calling us
  • using a paper form
  • visiting us.

The most convenient way to claim is by using your Centrelink online account through myGov. If you don’t have a myGov account or Centrelink online account, you’ll need to set them up.

If you already get a Centrelink payment from us, we’ll pre-fill some of your information in your online claim. Once you start a claim, you have up to 13 weeks to submit it. You don’t have to complete it in the 1 session. You can return to finish it later. If you have a correspondence nominee, they can claim online for you.

You can also submit a combined claim online if your partner also wants to claim. The combined claim option will appear in your online account if you and your partner are eligible to use it. Read how to claim.

If you can’t claim online, you can call us on the Older Australians line Monday to Friday, 8 am to 5 pm. Before you call, you can prepare by reading:

We’ll tell you next to the question in the forms what supporting information or documents we may need.

If claiming online or calling us isn’t an option for you, you can print and complete both the:

You can also print the Information you need to know about your claim for Age Pension and Pension Bonus to help you while you claim.

Visit us

If you need to visit us, plan your visit to avoid a long wait time. Claims will also take some time so allow enough time for us to help you. Find your nearest service centre and bring your supporting documents.
